The Biofilm Star project portrays the productive tension arising from the interaction between photography and diagnostic imaging. Microphotographs of biopsies analyzed by Fluorescent In Situ Hybridization, a technique used to visualize active bacteria, were utilized in an interactive and interdisciplinary exercise. A non-scientific audience played the main role in creating an aesthetic analogy of the “course of infection”, highlighting the importance of visual arts in science
