STM image of Sn/Ag surface alloy on Ge(111)

The images are representation of the density of states within the energy range set by the tunneling voltage, as fig.(a) was taken at -1.5 V represents the density of states below the Fermi level while fig.(b) at 1.3 V, showed density of states above the Fermi level. The parallelograms drawn on the images outlined the unit cell that is nine times as large as that of the substrate. The filled state image contains one blob per unit cell that consist of several Sn and /or Ag atoms. Ref.PRB 85,205409
