“The past is the key to the future”, this saying gets a new meaning on the Tibetan Plateau. The highest plateau on Earth reacts very sensitive to the current global warming. To improve climate predictions for this region, we reconstruct past climate evolutions and the variability of the Asian Monsoon using lake sediments. The Lake Tangra Yumco as one of our main research areas offers the opportunity to experience adventurous boat trips to take the highly coveted sediment cores.
