When wetlands get wet again

Greenhouse gas emissions from peatlands

Grimmer Str 88

To know how rewetting effects the global warming potential (GWP) of peatlands we study greenhouse gas emissions in peatlands in Belarus, year-round, from morning to evening. Our field work allows us to see how our sites change in the course of the day, during seasons and over the years. The fen on the picture was a grassland when we saw it for the first time. It became subsequently flooded and wetland plants come already in. How will it look like in twenty years? And what will be its GWP then?
