Play of Colour in Periodic Nanostructures

This fascinating play of colour was captured from one of my samples fabricated during my diploma thesis. The 1”x1” sample consists of almost 10 million nanorods with approximate dimensions of 200 nm x 200 nm x 20000 nm. The colour effect, which is visible to the naked eye, is caused by the interaction of light with these periodic nano-scaled features. These features were fabricated by novel Nanoimprintlithography and were used as specific designed drug carriers for pulmonary applications.
